Norman and Alta blinds

Wood and faux wood blinds that actually fit

The straightforward classic: real wood slats in a stain that matches your trim, or faux wood for the bathroom and the window over the kitchen sink. Cordless, with a wand.

Overview

The blind most houses were built for

Blinds are the fastest way to get a whole house covered well. Wood blinds suit rooms with stained trim and hardwood floors. Faux wood blinds look nearly the same from across the room, cost less and do not mind a steamy bathroom. Both tilt with a wand and lift cordless.

We make blinds to the exact width of each window, so the slats run edge to edge and the light gaps disappear. On a wall of windows, the blinds share one valance line and sit at the same height.

Top rail
Bottom rail

Wood blinds: tilt the slats to cut glare, or drag the bottom rail up to lift them out of the way.

Try it

Tilt the slats, lift the blind

  • Drag the tilt slider to turn the slats from closed to open.
  • Grab the bottom rail with your finger and lift the blind out of the way. It stays where you leave it, the same as a cordless blind at home.
  • The tilt is what you use every day. The lift is for when you want the whole window.

What you can choose

Options to choose from

Wood blinds

Real basswood slats in painted and stained finishes. Light, warm and the right choice for stained trim and hardwood floors.

Faux wood blinds

PVC or composite slats that will not warp, crack or fade. The blind for bathrooms, kitchens, garages and rentals.

Slat sizes

2 inch slats are the classic. 2 1/2 inch slats show more view and more light when open, and suit bigger windows.

Cordless lift

Push the bottom rail up or pull it down and it stays put. No cords, no cleats, nothing for a child or a pet to reach.

Routeless slats

Slats without the usual cord holes, so the blind blocks more light and gives more privacy when closed.

Valances and cloth tapes

A matching valance hides the headrail. Decorative cloth tapes cover the ladders and add a stripe of color down the blind.

Motorized tilt

A small motor tilts the slats from a remote or the app. Useful for a row of windows behind furniture or over a tub.

Good to know

Details worth deciding early

Wood or faux wood

Wood is lighter, which matters on a wide blind that you lift by hand, and it takes a stain. Faux wood is heavier, cheaper and waterproof. We often put wood in the front rooms and faux wood in the wet ones, in the same color.

Wide windows

A very wide blind gets heavy to lift. Past a certain width we recommend two blinds on one headrail, or a motorized tilt so the blind mostly stays down and you only use the slats.

Inside or outside mount

An inside mount needs enough depth for the headrail and gives a built-in look. An outside mount covers the trim and blocks more light at the edges. We check each window at the measure.

Matching stain

Stained wood blinds are matched to your trim or floor from the sample blocks we bring. Painted blinds come in a range of whites and neutrals.

The process

How it works

Three visits at most, and usually two.

  1. We come to you

We bring the samples, so you can hold fabrics and finishes up to your own walls, trim and light. We measure every window while we are there, including the ones up the ladder. The visit is free.

  2. You get a written quote

A clear price for each window, for exactly what you picked. Change it, trim it or take your time with it.

  3. We install

Your order is built to our measurements and installed by our own team. We haul away the old blinds.

Answers

Blinds questions

Wood blinds or faux wood blinds?

Wood for living spaces with stained trim and for wide windows where weight matters. Faux wood for bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms and anywhere humidity lives. Both can be matched in color so a house reads as one.

Are blinds cordless?

Yes. Every blind we install lifts cordless from the bottom rail and tilts with a wand. There are no lift cords.

Can blinds go on a very wide window?

Yes, up to the width limit of the product. Past that we put two blinds on one headrail under one valance, or recommend a roller shade or shutters, which handle wide spans better.

Do faux wood blinds look cheap?

Not the ones we install. From across the room a quality faux wood blind reads the same as a painted wood blind. Up close the slats are a little thicker. The trade is worth it in a bathroom.

How long do blinds take?

Blinds are one of the faster products to order. We give you a realistic date at the quote and install the whole house in one visit.
